I have a male and female that are in the house with us. The male is completely house trained, and the female will not urinate in the house, except at night on one of the dog beds. She is walked eveynight and then taken an out just before bedtime. The dogs were crated and by six months old had been house broken. Until recently she did not exhibit any of this behavior. She was spayed about 9 months ago, and exhibits dominant behavior over the male. The vet has assured me that there is nothing wrong with her, and I should try to empty her bladder before bedtime. I dont think the issue is that she can't hold it. She scratches at the back door whenever she needs to go out. I have corrected her when I have caught her, with the usual nose rubbing and firm reprimand. I dont think she understands. I will start crating her agian, but am doubtful it will work. She is crated during the day and does not urinate in the kennel. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try her on cranberry supplements- changes the acidity in the urine. She might be working on a bladder infection esp. since she has recently be spayed. Until she stops night peeing, I would crate her at night. If she has irritation, telling her off won't do anything but make her feel worse. She probably already feels bad enough. I use a cranberry pill to get a higher concentration and consistent dosage as opposed to raw fruit or cranberry juice. Just put it in her food and she'll eat it. Carolyn
