Hello all,

I am kinda new to beagles and am in need of some advice. I have a small female that is 10 months old and I noticed the first sign of her cycle today. I have been watching for this, because I also have males that I run with her at times. Today was one of those times and I was wondering how I should procede with this problem.

Can the Vet run a test this early to see if she was bred?

I am not sure if she was even bred, but she is my best and favorite and I do not want to take a chance.

Thanks,
ED

Ed, If you have been checking your female daily for first signs of her heat cycle and today was the first signs, I would not worry about her being bred. She should follow a "normal" heat routine of 21 days....the first 7 days are what I call "pre-heat" where they are cycling into season but unwilling to stand for a male just yet...day 8-14 is usually the 7 days where they will "flag" and stand receptive to a male....and the last 7 days of "post-heat" where they are winding down from the cycle and will no longer stand for a male. Probably best to go ahead and kennel her up in a good, secure kennel until her cycle is over. I'm no vet but this routine has always worked for me. :)

Good luck & God bless!

DarrinG,

Thanks for the reply. I am fairly certian, but not 100% sure that this was the first signs of cycle. I will admit that I did not really know what to look for until i found the small spot of blood. Is there any change in the color of discharge thru this 21 day cycle. I got her in my best above ground kennel if she is not bred now nothing will get her .

'Bout the earliest one can be pregnancy checked is 3-4 weeks. Many dogs will have a bloody discharge going into heat, turn clear the mid part, and be less bloody going out. They don't all read the books though!
