I have a female nursing 10 pups. They are 2 1/2 weeks old. The last few days I have noticed dry spots on her back where the hair is falling out. I am feeding her purina puppy chow and give her as much as she wants. she is eating about five cups a day. She is full of milk and seems to be keeping up with the pups just fine. Any ideas of what is causing the hair loss will be greatly appreciated. Vince Z.
It sounds like hot spots. I have a english red tick with the same thing. You can get a spray from the vet real cheap. like a couple dollars. It does take a while to regrow hair though.

Might also be what is called a stress effluvium. Some bitches will "blow" their coat while nursing pups and then hair back up fine after weaning. Also if they are dry patches could be a fungal dermatitis(ringworm). Being pregnant and then nursing really drags down a females immunity.
