Dog started running with tail under him

Dog is 4 yr.old,and running with tail tucked under? Took him running on Friday, he was fine, took him Monday, tail was up underneath him. Been like that for a week now. Had his anal gland squeezed,and he still holding it down. Took him to vet today, and they said his hip seems to be tender. They gave me rimadyl and said no running 10-14 days. Everything else checked out good. Only other thing he tried to jump into truck and fell on his back, I told vet about it and they said it could be why he's holding it under, that's why they gave me the pain med. Just wondering if anybody else had any suggestions on helping him out. He's good hound with great bloodline, I just hate it that this tail problem is holding him back.
