matted eyes
Recently purchased a 5 year old male.He has a bad case of eyes matting up.Been through 2 tubes of terramycin. It seem to clear up for awhile then get worse.Any ideas??
Re: matted eyes
Sounds like he may have something lodged behind or under the eyelids causing it to continue matting up like that.
Turn the eyelid (upper/ lower) inside-out and use saline in a squirt bottle to power flush behind the lids. Most times it's a piece of leaf or stem trapped under/behind the lid that the tears can't flush out causing the irritation and goop to build up.
Best of luck...

Re: matted eyes
In Beagles with excess tears/runny eyes that are not resolved by antibiotics, eye rinses & Benadryl - generally this is what we have found to be the problem:

If it is severe, you may be able to see the extra eyelashes under a bright light, or an ACVO vet can diagnose it for around $35-$40 during a CERF eye exam: http://web.vmdb.org/home/CERF/Resources ... cList.aspx or http://web.vmdb.org/home/UpcomingClinicList.aspx
