Has anybody ever had a hound with a heart mummer how did it hurt the dogs ability to live and did it shorten his life any.

I have a hound right now with a heart murmur. He was diagnosed with this around a year ago. Doesn't seem to bother him at all. My vet wanted to run a bunch of test on him but I never took him back. I decided if he dropped over dead the next time I took him out and run him then he died doing what he loved to do more than anything else in this world. This probably didn't help much but he has been going strong for over a year now.
Those who work the hardest will be rewarded in the end.

One of mine has what is called a functional one....our Vet said it was NOTHING in her case. He once at the beginning of his practice caused a client to spend a lot of money on tests to only find out it was nothing. According to him she can do anything else any other beagle or dog does, and she does.

A heart murmur itself is not a problem. Healthy hearts can have a murmur (which is what a "functional murmur" is), but in other cases, the murmur is a symptom of another problem.
