Is it o-k to use cattle fly ear tags on dog collar for ticks on dogs. I hear the tage will last for 2 nonths and cost around 2.00. I've benn using spoton but it bad for the dogs liver and kidineys. I'm going to start a new system. What do you think is best and cost effective. Thanks

I'm just guessing at this, but here's my opinion: Do the ear tags contain an insecticide in an amount that will actually control ticks? I believe the method by which these fly tags work on cattle is that they swing their heads around and rub on each other, spreading the insecticide all over their bodies. Will a dog be able to do that with the tag on the collar? And most importantly, will the dog or other dogs kenneled with the dog wearing the tag be tempted to lick or chew the tag? That couldn't be a good thing.

I've used the tags on horses for fly control and they seem to work, but I don't know about the efficiency in dogs.

go to your local farm store and get this spray that is called horse and stable,,,,,it kills fleas , ticks and biting flies on contact,,,,,spray them from head to tail getting thier belly and rough the hair up so it gets to the skin,again it kills on contact,,this is made for horses and dogs so no diluting needed,,it is 15.50 per gallon,,,,,,,,,,,

Will it hurt humans to pet/be around the dog covered with this spray?

I wouldn't think so, just make sure to wash all areas that came into contact with the dog...
