Dog ran a stick in her Eye.

Post by South Woods kennel »

My dog was running in a trial and i got home and looked and theres a stick barely sticking out, i pulled it out and it was about 2 inches. I will take her to the vet on monday but i was wondering if there is any chance of her getting full vision back in that eye. This dog has 1 win and a 2nd as a derby.

Wow Jake , that really stinks. Hope she recovers for ya. I'm guessing a vet can't do too much for her ,except maybe some anti-biotic and some kind of drops maybe. 2 inches is a lot of stick. She's lucky it didn't kill her. I believe the eye tissue heals fairly quickly and will close fast. As far as seeing, I would be shocked if she got anything back , if she lost any vision. Good luck with her bud, keep me posted.

Let us know what the vet said and if he offered any emergency treatment that we should know about in the event this happens again out in the field...

the vet said it missed all the important stuff in the eye, it went in on an angle. he said the stick was very clean no burs on it and thats what saved her eye.

What a good and lucky break on how the stick entered the eye socket. I had that happen to a young started coon hound and the stick actually put her eye completely out. She healed up but looked really strange with only one eye and never did amount to much after that.

i have 2 different dogs that have done this
dog 1 recovered and can see but if you shine her at night with a light only one eye shines and now that she is 7 and did it when she was 2 she has white scare tissue built under the lenze but still can see it never effected the dogs running in any way

dog 2 i just pulled it out and way so tight for money at the time i did not take to the vet just put him on antibiotics and he has a white scare tissue in his eye also and it dont effect him in any way

point of all this jake a good dog can run blind they dont need them eyes just there nose they can smell every thing every tree stump leave ext your bitch will still finish just keep takeing her dont think it will slow her down any ;)
