I have a pup with a very bad looking eye. Up untill today it has just been a little watery, but this morning it was completely shut with a lot of mucus around it, and when I tried to open it to look at it a lot more mucus came out. Any one seen this before or have any suggestons.

Sounds like something got stuck in there. Did you go running lately? I try and rinse out my beagles' eyes when I get back from running. An ounce of prevention is worth its weight in gold. I take regular saline solution that you would use to rinse off contacts and gently squirt it all over in the dogs' eyes. It flushes things out before it starts festering... I have had very good luck with this.

Thanks for the advice Emery, I may try that on my older dogs. In this case it was a 9 week old pup.... the vet said she had scratched her eye, so she gave me some drops and ointment.... the eye is already looking much better.

I have a buddy who is a paramedic. He keeps me supplied in sterile water and it is good to use to flush the eyes also. (can you believe they have an expiration date on sealed sterile water? I get all the expired bottles.)

Steve, look at your bottle.. does it say saline on it? The reason to use saline is that it has some salt content in it, just like the tears you produce. No stinging in the eyes when applied.
