I have a very bad infestation of wolf rats. they are huge. Well they have been eating all my food in my pan for my dogs. So I slowed down my feeding for them and started feeding smaller amounts twice a day to each when they got done I would put the feed back in the big metal can. well since I have been doing this I have been noticing that my hound that is on the outside being scratched on and stuff. it looks like big scratches on his sides. what can I do. I have so stop this. I am building me a new kennel but now that they can't eat my food they are eating my hounds.
is there a poison that I can put out for them. that will not kill my hounds.

sit some bait out,get you a good 22 and a spot light, sit out on a nice night and have fun shooting them.they make birdshot 22 shells which are effective at close ranges.hope you get it taken care of before they give your hounds a disease.

Dang, if I had rats that bad I would see if I could get a buddy of mine to house my dogs at his kennels for a week or so and would then commense to declaring all out war on them nasty rats. After the hounds were gone for a few days, I would poison the crap outta them, shoot them, kill them suckers by any and all means!

If they're hole digging rats, try finding all the holes, plug them all but one and run a hose from your vehicle exhaust to the unplugged hole. Worked great on the farm around grain bins.
Another option is to flood them with water and watch the holes and shoot them as they come out the hole.
Or get a Jack Russell. They go right down the holes after the rats.
Good luck!

Southern States Farm Supply carries a cake type rat bait that is very effective. Just place in areas where your hounds can't get to it and you should start seeing dead rats.

I've had very good luck with a product called bar bait. I put it where the dogs can't get at it (I have above grd kennels) and when the bait no longer disappears, the rats are gone.Good luck!!

GOOD GRIEF !!!!! IF THOSE RATS ARE EATING BEAGLES DON'T SEND
NO JACK RUSSEL DOWN A HOLE AFTER THEM. THEN AGAIN,MAYBE IF YOU DID THEY WOULD NOT BOTHER YOUR BEAGLES FOR AWHILE. LMAO
TRY THE POSION FIRST.

Smoke,
If you raise any pups this year, make sure that your shots have the vaccine for Lepto in them.

I just had a litter but I moved them to another location. These rats have been here for a while. I have been feeding a real high protein for a about a year so these things have been getting bigger and multiplying all this long. we are building a new kennel. Know one will believe me how big they are until I show them. Their bodies are longer than my foot. I have been trying to shoot them with rat shot. killed about 5 a day. there is a saw dust pile that they are nesting in and a hay pack that they use. they have tunnels that move from all lover is there a poison that I could put out for them that won't hurt my dogs. my friend has an electric fence around his pens. and he has found several latched on the fence dead. I wonder if that would help or not.

I have been killing about 4 a day but they are getting smart. I am using a 22 with rat shot in it it takes 2 shots for the big ones. They are only coming out at certain times. I am only feeding what my dogs will eat no more. but they still will not come out. it's like they are watching me. With them breeding in the sawdust and hay there is no telling how many that there are. I am mostly seeing the little ones.

I say take Beaglenuts advice on the bait, 22, and a spotlight. After killing a few, skin them out, fry them up and take to work as squirrel. Laugh at the ones who eat it........
Just Joking... But it is a fun thought....
