Puppy chow is good, almost too good imho. It seems rich and fatty, lots of puppies get soft stool off it epically if it's mixed with water and softened.
What I did was withhold feed till evening and allow them to empty out their stomach, then feed a dry kibble for a few days to allow their stomach to readjust and then I saw the stool firm up and harden again.
I only fed the puppy chow every other day and it seemed to keep the stool firm and from getting mushy again.
To me, a bloated belly on a puppy is not a good thing and this is what to much soft food will do. The puppy does not chew to fill itself, it only laps up the mush till it bloats. If the puppy has sufficient fluids already, what goes in is what comes out... ;)
