Re: prolapse
I had a young female do that and the vet wanted me to have her fixed. Another vet told me to go ahead and breed her that it would only become a problem less that 1% of the time. Had no problems and raised one of the healthiest litters of pups I've ever seen. Just my experience with it.

Re: prolapse
Don't worry about it. I traded off a female I really liked once because of that. The guys I traded her to just pushed it in and let a male breed her on the second heat, she had the litter and never prolapsed again.
Re: prolapse
A buddy of mine told me that the prolapse was caused by a hormone imballance and that breeding them would correct it. Mine hasn't prolaplsed since having pups, so maybe it helps.

Re: prolapse
I have a gyp that has done that with each heat cycle since she started. She is now due for her 3 cycle and I plan to breed her this cycle. My vet said she has seen this multiple times, it is caused by hormone overload and it will usually be corrected with the first breeding. Make sure that you keep it cleaned with sterile water (we use the solution used for contact lenses since it has a fine tip to get a good stream of solution to clean with) and lubed up with KY as her cycle ends it will shrink and go back to normal. It is very important to clean in at least a couple of times a day and keep the KY jelly on it to allow it to go back in place. Hope this helps.

Re: prolapse
thanks everyone I kept it clean and also I used PREPARATION-[H] it helped with-- pain --itching--- protect the tissue---it looks a lot better-- but you still can see the tip of it --again thanks for the e-mails and calls

Re: prolapse
I have a young female that prolapsed on her first heat cycle. I took her to a vet and was told that most of the time they outgrow it. She didn't! This is her third cycle and I thought she was going to die. Her prolapse was as big as your fist and she is only 11" tall. I couldn't imagine taking a chance and breeding her. It always shrinks but never goes away. She is on her way to get spayed next week.

Re: prolapse
had it fixed --stapled her up she fine now --it was high enough just to staple her --they want to spay her but I didn't want to put that much in her --she hasn't started yet

Re: prolapse
My female prolasped after birth and we spayeded her (on advice from vet). I regret it now...wish we would have had stapled back up and took our chances again. with another litter...the pups i have out of her are very, very nice.
Never seen it happen on a heat cycle.
