crusty ears
Have had trouble with a crusty lookin stuff on the edge of my dogs ears, looks like scabs. Dogs frequently seen shaking their heads, and/or digging at ears. Anyone know what this is and how to cure it??
Crusty ears
I ran into this before usually after the hounds have a hard run in the thickets. The edges of the ears get cuts and scraps that get infected easily. I wash the ears with hot water and peroxide to soften up the crusty stuff until in comes off. Then I rub on a antibiotic cream, do this and ears should clear up in a couple days. If not it could aso be mange mite and in that case I keep my hounds on a topical product that is called Revolution which kills all types of mites.

Jake,
This is just an assumption, but if they are shaking their heads and digging at their ears then the crusty scabs is most likely caused by them digging so much. My guess would be earmites. I know you can use ivomec but I am not sure on the dosage. Also you could use otomax. Your vet might sell this to you and it is a good thing to have on hand.
Good Luck
