You need to condition the pad and strengthen the toes again. Was the hound kept in offground kennel?

When we were boys, we used to go barefoot all summer. My little brother always had his shoes off first and could outrun me down the rock road, his foot soles were like leather.
In the spring, grandpa would call us "tenderfoots"... by mid-summer, we couldn't feel a brier in the foot for the callous hardened.

You need to condition your hounds foot the same, Nothing hardens the pad and get the hound up-on-toes like a trot down the back roads, not a fast run, but a steady trot. You don't want to weardown the pad, only toughen and thicken it as we did when we were kids... You remember the blisters you got when you did to much too soon... ;)
