Ivermectin is the active ingredient in heartgard, that I'm told can even be given to pregnant females. So I would think that ivermec must be pretty safe. Of course any wormer is a poisin and should be used accordingly. I give my dogs 1/10 of a cc per 10 pounds of body weight once a month.

1/10 th cc per 10 lbs body weight - BUT a maximum of 2/10ths of a cc was the way I always heard it should go.

I give it by mouth once a month, as directed by my vet. He said that it would get to the bloodstream faster through the mouth than it would under the skin. He recomended 1cc per 52 pounds of dog. My Beagles are around 20-25 pounds so he recommended half of 1cc I asked him what to do about my female when she got with pups, and he said give it the same as always. I did, and the pups were healthy as could be. Some close friends give 1 whole cc every month to their Beagles. No problems yet. Just my two cents. Hope it helps. :D
