lump in throat

Post by joekaschak »

My bitch developed a lump in her throat within the last couple days. Really only noticed it today but my wife said it was there yesterday. Seems to be a hard lump. She just whelped a litter of 8 last Thursday. Vet won't be back till next Wednesday. I started her on 200mg amoxicillin twice a day ( just started tonight when I got home from work--about 8:30). Will try to call my secondary vet (I like him the best, but he is almost an hours drive, so I only use him for the most important stuff). Biggest problem is my wife. She is a great girl but tends to over worry at times. Does anybody have any thoughts (on the lump)?? Thanks Joe Kaschak

I doubt this would be the case since your female just whelped pups but I had a hound run a stick down his throat while running that had to be surgically removed. Fragments of the stick was left in his neck/throat area and he developed a lump a little bigger than a golf ball. Could she have somehow ran something down her throat or neck? The vet did not see the stick in the X-rays but found it under the knife. Not sure this would be the case for your female, but could be possible.

Some bitches will chew wood in the throws of labor, could be a splinter?
Could be an infected thyroid gland in the neck?

Look closely for any opening as it may contain a Bot fly embreo that we call a wolf. Its usually on the side or more so on the bottom throat area, never seen one on top part of neck. If so, you can use tweezers and pull it out.
