I have a litter of pups that are 7 weeks old and have been wormed each week since they were 2 weeks old and they had their first shot last week at 6 weeks old. The problem is that when they have a bowel movement it comes out just like liquid. I am feeding them Purina Chow. Any help would be appriciated.

Could be Coccidia, get some albon, or it could be Parvo even though they had the shot a week ago takes two weeks to give immunities so isolate and keep plenty of water and watch them closely. Might take one to the vet to find out for sure.

Sounds like Coccidia. Easy to cure if you catch it and stick w/ the treatment.

I got some of the Corid powder from Southern States when I got off work Friday and started giving it to them and I can tell a difference in them already. Thanks TC and Briarhoppers for the info. When I first got the corid and mixed it in water I drew some up in a siringe and pumped some down each pup to make sure they got started on it and I am also giving the water to the grown dogs. Price wasn't bad either, $14.99 for a 10 lb pail

Running stools? Man that would make it hard to finish your beer.If your not carful you could chip a tooth.

what is coccidia and what is the treatment

Coccidia is a parasite that lives in the intestines of dogs and is fatal in pups if not treated in time but it is not as hard on grown dogs. A grown dog can have it and you may not know it but in pups the bowl can look similiar to if they have parvo and sometime the runny bloody looking bowl can make you think they have parvo and if you treat them for parvo without taking them to the vet to find out for sure you will loose them. They have weight lost and also won't keep food down just like a case of parvo. As mentioned above, the vet will give you albon for a treatment but I got some corid from Southern States and it has taken care of the problem. I have been told that once it gets in the ground bleach won't kill the coccidia and the only way to kill it is to burn the ground but with the corid I think I will just give all the dogs a treatment every other month or so because it really isn't that expensive. I got a 10 lb bucket of the corid granule for $14.99 but they also had it in liquid in quarts or gallons. The vet says to give the pups the albon for 10 days but with the corid I might give it two them for 3--4 weeks at a time.

How do you mix the corid...How do you give it to pups..Does it taste bad..

I use a cough syrup measure cup and fill it and put in 2 gallons of water, some give them 1.5cc shot in the mouth, but I know the dogs don't like to drink the water so it must taste bad... I never tried it myself LOL... I don't give them a choice of water I just put it in the only water dish they have so they have to drink it. For smaller pups I put it in water and then pour the water on their dog food. To me though I think the easiest way would be to do the 1.5 cc in a syringe and give em a dose that way you would know they got it in their system, but never done it that way, but the next time I suspect a problem will do it that way. But for maintenance put it in the water dish or bucket....

Can you guys tell me what Coccidia looks like?
