I have a 4 month old pup that constantly eats his waste. Often times immediatly after he goes? I've other dogs do this from time to time but not like this guy. Is there anything I can do to discourage him?

There is a powder that you can sprinkle on your dog's food that will make his waste taste bad to him and he should then stop eating it. I can't remember the name of it, but if you ask about it at a pet supply store, they should be able to help you out.

Something you also might want to consider is that dogs will do this if they aren't getting enough nutrition in their diets. Just my $.02.

A lot of dogs do it just because it tastes good to them. There are usually a lot of undigested remnants left in waste, so for my two cents the lack of nutrition just doesn't add up. In earlier posts the same thing was said about dogs eating grass. Once again, just my two cents, that's not about nutrition either. I've seen and had dogs that get only the best of feed do both these things. You have to understand......above all else....they're just dogs and do dog things!

You might try sprinkling Adolph's meat tenderizer on the pups food.

i had this same problem, i put my shock collar on the dog. after feeding i would hide in the house and watch from the window. they always go just after feeding. as soon as he touched it, WHAM !!! AFTER 2 OR 3 TIMES IT WAS OVER FOR GOOD. good luck.

I read somewhere on this forum that the puppies will normally do this for up to 4 mos. and it was because their mother did this to keep the puppies bedding area clean and maybe free of parasites . "Learned behavior"
