I have a couple of dogs getting wart like growths on their lips and on the inside of their ears. A couple have been worn off during running but am puzzled as they don't seem to bother them.

Warts are wierd things. Had two 8-month-old littermates (not kenneled together) with warts as you described. Out of the 16-18 dogs we had at the time, these were the only two to have them. Before I could come to a decision as to whether or not to have them removed, the warts disappeared on their own - almost overnight. I haven't seen them back.

We had some warts spreading around our dogs. Most of them came in small numbers around the lips and went. One had a huge one on his chin that we treated with wart-remover, and once we got rid of it, the rest went away. I've heard that treating one will stimulate the body's immune response to attack the rest. The problem is that the wart remover meds are NASTY and can cause damage to uninfected skin. You can't apply it near the mouth, and I don't think you can put in near ears, either. The are too many vital parts and thin layers of skin exposed in those areas. You'll do much more harm than good.

One of ours literally had hundreds of them inside his mouth. It was pretty disgusting, and we kept waiting for his immune system to get rid of them. He had maybe half of them removed finally at the vet, and they came back and kept coming. Not only was it disgusting, but I saw them growing on the roof of his mouth, and I didn't want them to grow further back and bother his breathing or swallowing. He didn't act bothered at all, though. We did another vet removal (this time more aggressive), and even though there were still maybe 100 smaller ones left this time, they all went away within maybe a week.

If they're warts, they will go away eventually. If they're spreading like crazy in a month or two, get some over the counter meds and treat a few of the warts that are safely away from the eyes, ears, and mouth.
