My 18 month beagle has a left eye that seems to be weeping with a sticky fluid. Mostly it has this fluid in the morning but it appears wet in the duct corner of her eye throughout the day. What could be causing this? It does not seem to bother her.

It could be that there is a little debris in there. Take some saline solution that you would use for contacts and give it a good rinse under the eye lids. The other thing could be that your dog just might produce too much tears and you are seeing the excess come out where it would normally drain.

Many dogs have weepy eyes, particularly if they've got some allergies. One of mine always has some weeping going on. If it's only one eye that is weeping, then there's probably some sort of problem there - maybe just dirt, but possibly a scratched cornea or an eye infection. If the weepage is bright green or yellow, it's most likely infected. For either a scratch of infection, it will just take a few days worth of meds to fix the problem, but it would mean a trip to the vet, possibly a test to see if there's a scratch (you use different meds for a scratch vs an infection), and some prescription eyedrops.

Ironically enough, I just had my one year old to the vet yesterday and I aksed about his weepy eyes, it seems that with him anyway, the way his eyelids sit, they are slightly curled towards the eye, and therefor there are tiny hairs constantly rubbing his eyes, the vet said it was nothing to worry about, and if I wanted, they could perform a short surgery to remove a bit of the lid, I opted not to go for this right now, as it doesn't seem to bother him.
