Brittle nails - Red and White dog

Wondering if this is associated with certain dogs or color of dogs. I have a red and white female that for the second time in a month has broken a nail while running. This last time the outer part of the nail split clean off of the quick. Is this a problem with other Red and White dogs or lemons.
