what does it mean if they scoot their but on the ground

It means they need their anal sac expelled. You can do it yourself but it is a little messy. If you have never done it, take the dog to the vet, have the vet show you how to do it so you can do it in the future. Using a feed with extra fiber can help prevent the problem in the future.

There was a really good thread about this very subject earlier. If gave a link to a website that gave instructions on how to do this. Look back a few pages in this vet section and you should be able to find it.
