Cancer
Guys i just wanted to post this as FYI and i hope no one has to go thru this about 3-4 weeks ago my oldest female who is just shy of 7 years old i noticed she had been loosing weight she was getting thin in the face and shoulders at first i wasnt concerned i thought it was the hot weather well then i noticed she was swelling in the abdomen so i took her to the vet he did some blood work and at fist thought we had an infection and he found whip worms well then he decided to do an xray there was a fluid build up in the abdomen and he couldnt see behind the fluid real well so he took a sample of the fluid and sent it to a lab to be tested and found out she had cancer (mast cell cancer) then we did an ultra sound and found out it was more wide spread than we originally thought so he had me take her to indianapolis today as there is no veternary oncologist here in evansville the oncologist confirmed the report we started her today on chemotherapy he also told that about 50 percent of the dogs dont respond to chemo and if she doest respond she will only have about 2 months to live the chemo wont cure her but he said depending on how well she does she could live another 6 months to 3 years there was no way of knowing this female is more than just a hunting dog she is like my best friend so if you notice something out of the ordinary spend the money to take her to the vet and have them checked out the chemo is about 110.00 a treatment which is once a week for 4 weeks and once everyother week for 4 weeks all total i will have 2300.00 wrapped up but i am lucky i have a good job and can afford this so i will do as much for her as i can like i said i hope no one ever has to go thru this

Ditto! And I also would let her sleep in the bed if she wanted, but they say I'm a softie when it comes to those extra-special dogs.JesandDeb wrote:Sorry to hear this....I hope she does well with this and lives the rest of her life happy and pain free. Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
