Abortion

A friend of mine had an accidental breeding of 2 of his birds dogs yesterday. They are brother and sister littermates. He missed that she was in heat I guess. They hung for about 10 minutes before the cold water sepperated them. He is afraid for the pups because of the inbreeding. The female is also too young. Anyone have any ideas? I don't agree with human abortion except in certain cases (incest rape). I think the same is true for the dogs.
Thanks

If he acts quickly, a vet can give her a "mismate shot" that will cause her to abort and will most likely "restart" the heat cycle. I am not much on giving any dog hormones that alter her natural cycle. However, that is his only option other than taking his chances that the breeding "missed". Tell him your friend he will definitely need to keep her away from the male when she comes back in. The vet will not likely give her a second mismate shot that close to the first one.

How old is the bitch? Once dogs are tied the damage is done within 1 min so, spraying them with water etc. isn't helping anything. Even though a close breeding like that is not advised I doubt there will be any problems with the puppies. I'd probably just watch her and wait as I have heard nothing good about mismate shots.
