I have 2, 8 month old pups in one kennel. And they tore open a spot in there box and ate some of the 1in. styrofoam insulation.
I was wondering if this will kill them?? I know it can't be good. Is there anything I can do. I just noticed it today and I fixed it.

Re: Pups ate Insulation
I have a pup that got into some fiberglass insulation a few weeks ago and seems to fine. Don't know if she ate any but she sure did have it tore up.
Re: Pups ate Insulation
I've read where styrofoam coffee cups left in the woods will kill hare and rabbits, because it bungs them up inside. I'd expect the same could happen to pups if they ate enough. I found that hounds (adults and pups) always seem to want to scratch or chew plywood or wood if there is styrofoam beneath it, so I line my kennels with metal, then lay plywood over it so I can replace the plywood as needed. Lately, I've used a recycled plastic material (I get 4x8' sheets, 3/4" thick, for $25.) It's hard and so far they don't chew it, yet it's got some texture to it, so they don't slip. Terry McBride

Thanks for the info guys. They seem the same i'll just keep an eye on them. Some of it was laying in the box so i'm guessing the rest of it they ate.

Give these pups a tablespoon or two of hydrogen peroxide!!!
Several years ago, I had a pup get into charcoal briquets after they were lit ... so they had lighter fluid on them as well ... We called an E-Vet who gave us the tip about using the peroxide to induce vomiting. I believe it took about 2 teaspoons to get her to upchuck. I have used this method at least one other time when a pup ate something potentially harmful. It works like a charm.
Good luck w/ the pups.

I have used this method as well for many years! I've had a few dogs eat chocolate, too much food, and once mouse bait. works like a charm! One caution. Do not make a dog throw up who may have swallowed something that is caustic or sharp that may hurt the esophogus on the way out. Call your vet first. Also, this only works of course if you catch it right away and the contents are still in the stomach.Beagled1 wrote:Give these pups a tablespoon or two of hydrogen peroxide!!!

Well i'm not sure when they got into it and tore it up.
But they seem fine, I haven't seen them acting like anything is wrong but i'm keeping an eye on them.
