heart worms

What most of us farm raised hunters do .We apply the knowledge gained by being around animals and watching them being treated by our relitives.A vet. was called only as A last resort . M ost of us give our own shots ,worm, and take care of the preventive meds. any more then that is usely based on your knowledge and experance with animals. we do quite A bit of exchangeing our experances with one another in treating sick animals it is still A expensive hobby. But not as expensive as A lot of other sports. Just use good commen sence and treat as you would A child.Good luck . And good running. Roy

Heart Guard Plus is a chewable tablet. It is expensive at the vet, but you can get it online at petmeds.com for probably less than at the vet. One good thing about using this medication, it takes care of worming in general. It is a once a month dose that I give on the 1st of the month. This way, I don't have to try and remember when it is due. The 1st day of each month I grab the Heart Guard Plus and take it out with the food and it is a done deal until next month. One thing you need to do before giving any heatworm medicine is ensure that the dogs are heartworm free. If they have a bad case of them already and you kill the heartworms, you can kill the dog. I would suggest taking it in the shorts once and verify from a vet that they are free, buy one package from the vet and then get the rest of your meds online.

Hope this helps,
Emery

I have a lot of dogs and I give them Ivomec injection for cattle and swine. i just shoot one tenth of a cc for every ten pounds of body weight down there mouth once a month. I have been doing this for years and i have never had any trouble with heart worms. I think it is a good idea to have a dog checked the first time for heartwarm. I heard if they had them they would die if given ivomec. If they have heartworm they will die anyway if you don`t have a lot of money to treat them.

I also recommend either Heartgard Plus or Interceptor. Interceptor has a slight advantage over Heartgard in that it also controls whipworms. Doc S
