THEN STARTED TAKING HIM BACK TO FIELD.EVERY THING WAS NORMAL UNTEL A EXCEPTINAL HARD LONG RACE .THE PUP WAS OVER TIRED WHEN HE CAME IN. I TOOK HIM AND KENNELED HIM CHECKING ON HIM QUITE OFTEN HE CALMED DOWN SO I THOUGHT HE WAS O.K. THE NEXT DAY WHEN CHECKED HE HAD SWELLING AROUND HEAD AND THROAT HAD VET CHECK . When a person has had a heat stroke they usually have trouble handling heat from that moment on and become much more susceptible to heat-related problems the rest of their life. I would assume a dog would be the same way. If the dog had a heat stroke, it may be that he can't take getting overheated or tired anymore.
If you can't run with the BIG DOGS stay on the porch!

That is a tough one, but it is true that once one has been heat stressed they have a harder time handling heat. I would deworm thoroughly, give him a couple weeks off, and see what happens. Doc S

I've heard thyroid problems can cause difficulty with heat regulation, so you may want to have that checked.
