I have a friend that has a dominant bitch that she has trouble getting to stand for a male. The male of her choice is somewhat smalller do you think he's submissive ?? what would be suggested to do to get her to stand for next heat?
Thanks for your help.
Jane

First, I would make sure the bitch is in full blown heat when the male is introduced (use a tester male to see that she pulls up and rolls her tail to the side, stands firm). Some males are not interested until a bitch is "just right" and a bad experience put in to early may make him a bit timid about the ole girl.
I've bred a smaller males to 15" bitches, I had a platform made of 2X2's framed covered by 1/2" plywood, just enough for him to hit the mark.
After the two had been introduced and a enough excitement was stirred within each of the pair, I held the bitch standing her rear just at the edge of the platform. The male nosed her, she rolled her tail and pulled up, he mounted and the tie was made. I kept her at that position so she didn't drag him around or the tie become broken and after the deed was done, they were happy to meet again after skipping a day.
I'd say getting the bitch used to you holding her, maintaining control of her head and keeping her calm at the platform prior to the event would be a great help... ;)

That's what I surmised but some just like ole mother nature to take it's course! I will pass that along about the platform, seems to be a really good idea given the male is smaller. Might just make him feel like a really big fella!
Thanks,
Jane

Take HER to HIS kennel when you are sure she is ready - Flagging, curling her tail, etc. If he is not bold enough to breed her then, I would not consider him as a sire anyhow. Best wishes!

Always best to take the bitch to the dog. I've had a couple hard breeders, one, my pop fannie bitch and the other North Bucks Diva. Fannie you had to breed at the start of her heat or you missed her, and diva didn't want any hound over her back. Both these had to be hands on for breeding or they'd eat the dog.
Nature's way is always the best but sometimes when traveling to breed, you don't have the luxury of alot of time. You never know how maiden bitches are going to take to it. Some dogs are straight to business and others like to romance awhile...
