Dog not eating

Post by green river »

I have a 7 year old bitch that is not eating much of her food. She normally gobbles it up as soon as you put it down. It's been going on for 2 days and she seems to be doing good hunting and have energy and seems healthy. It's almost time for her to come into heat. I'm thinking that might be what the problem is but the previous owner says it never happened while he had her. I had a Lab that did that before she came in. Anyone ever experience this before?

I hope that is all it is!!!!!!! Some bitches act really weird when they come into season. Is she drinking more than normally and urinating frequently? I had a female that was a real chow hound. She did just as you described and it turned out she was going into renal (kidney) failure. Best of luck! Maybe she will be eating again by the time you read this!

When I went out to get her this morning she had ate all of her food but it took all night. Without getting too graphic, she had a stool on the floor of the kennel that was at least 12". I thought maybe she was stopped up a little and would be fine today, but she is still doing the same thing after we got done hunting today. She seems to feel good and still has energy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Eric Put a little Bacon Grease on her Food see if she eats it better then.
this will also help her a little if she is stoped up Some.
you just recently Changed foods to didnt you?
I have one here My Chance dog that will take fits and eat fine for a couple mo then take a spell where he wont eat hardly at all for a few days.
If you get to worried about here try some hamburger mixed with some rice.
We usually boil the hamburger then mix it in with some rice little garlic to spice it up They will eat it right up......
Will give ya a call here in a bit.

Have you checked her teeth? Sometimes a toothache or other disorder in the mouth will slow down a chowhound.

beagle crazy thats a great idea,I have a real nice 2 year old female that is gone down hill and will not eat hardly at all.then leave her layed up for a couple of days she will perk up,when I run her she gives a 100% but I can't run her much because she don't eat enough to keep her up in shape.I can run my other 3 hounds hard and they handle it fine.never thought of her teeth. thanks Ken

She's doing fine now. Thanks for asking. She missed her heat though. Hoping she'll come in sometime soon. I'd like to get 1 more litter out of her.
