Doc, I have a male that I took to my vet cause he lost his appetite a couple of week ago and started limping on his back leg. Now last Monday he had two spots on his head that swelled up one was on top of his head the other below the right eye. Now these swelled up spots busted and alot of blood and pus came out. My vet really didn't know what was wrong he said maybe a abscess tooth and insect bite and snake bite anyway all he could do was make a guess. My vet but him on Baytril 22.7 once a day, well he has been on this for 3 days now and today I noticed that his left leg is swollen twice it's normal size from the elbow up and he can't walk on it and I feel two small egg shape lumps, one on each side of his throat! Any Ideas??? I can't get him back to the vet until Monday. Thanks Tom Gross
Coop,
Sounds like he's full of infection, better pump him with a couple cc of pen G for about 10 days. Doesn't sound like the other is doing any good...Patch
Does sound like systemic infection. If he goes down quickly, you may have to seek an emergency vet. I hope he rallies for you. Good luck and let us know how he does.
Well I didn't know my vet had a emergency # until my wife told me! (no it all LOL!) Anyway he put him on Prednisone (steriod) and if the swelling doesn't go down by Monday he wants to see him. Anyway thanks guys! Tom Gross
Patch I went out to the kennel yesterday morning and for the first time in 3 weeks Bart chased his tail and Bark at me. I was kinda wondering if he would ever bark at me again.LOL! The swelling in the leg has gone down about half way but the lumps in his throat seems the same and I have caught him standing on his swelled leg and he is now eating great so overall (fingers crossed) I say he is coming around. I hope, I have a couple of pups that could use him to keep the rabbit going.LOL! Thanks for asking. Tom gross
Good to hear the hound is showing improvement. The lymph glands in the neck are what your feeling, probably. They collect all the poisons in the system. Hope he stays on the mend...Patch
