I have a dog that keeps losing her hair new hair is underneath but the hair falling out it matted. She is 6 months and Its came and gone three times . The vet can not find any Lice or mites or parsites of any kind. I had another dog about a year ago that had this same problem the first vet said it was Lice so when this pup showed the same sign i treated it as lice. It went away, but the last two times both vets say its not a parasite I have new Kennels Since the first dog a year ago I have new kennels new houses and new dishes and the problem comes back. The first dog got it when she came into heat, two times but this pup has not come in heat. I have had skin scrapings and the second vet is stumped and wants to do blood work, I have told him that is not the only dog I have had that has had this problem any ideas

Wow, 2 vets and neither knows what it is? I don't know, but would sure like to know when you find out. I hate to say it, but maybe a 3rd opinion is in order.

Could they be chewing it? perhaps there is some itchy problem that causes them to chew in a certain spot? Its odd that more than one has had it though.

What do the ears look like?
Any stuff that looks like sawdust?

That sounds like walking dandruff. Cheyletiella mites. they are a fairly large mite but, can't be seen with the naked eye. Ivomec will take care of it.

I know you folks ain't much for your hounds being a mess but, if you'll rub the hound down with used motor oil and remove all bedding & paint the inside of the box with the rest of the oil, being generous with it in all corners and edges, by weeks end your hound will be on the mend with a shinny new coat and the oil will have all the mites in the box smothered to death...

No, "we arn't going anywhere".
You have your ways and I have mine that works for me. The fellow ask for help, I think this is an immune problem that is only temporarily cured by Ivomec or the treatment of oil & sulfer.
I never offer my advice in hopes too argue wth you, only to give the fellow an opinion.
I've had hounds with immune weakness that had skin troubles, it is hereditary and passed on to their offspring. No dog or bitch is bred from that shows weakness. It's the same as why some pups have all their shots and still get sick, they are weak in the immune system and never built the antibodies against the disease.
This is the Health Forum, not the Show Dog Forum but, if this fellow is one of your own, I won't interfere with the way you do things. Maybe he should have ask it there, if our ways are so backwards to you...

There are old ways of dressing a hound down that still work and don't cost an arm or leg doing it. Many may not have the money or wish to expose their hounds to sickness in taking them to the vet's office.
I am sorry I have crossed the line with you somewhere Larry, but you offer nothing in the way of help or advice, only a snooty comment...
Windkist, I resign the floor to you in helping this fellow out...
