bumps on ears

my dog has these little bumps on the edges of his ears looks like klumps of dirt and when you scrape them off the hair comes off with it. has anyone experienced this ?what causes this and a cure ? thanks kevin..

sometimes it can be a mite or just food and dirt bulid up. things i have found that would is cover the ears with bag balm or something like it where ever you see it on the ears next day take a rag or something to wipe the old stuff of the ear and apply new.

have you been runnin them alot in the early mornings or when its real wet Mine get it to its a fungal thing like dew poisoning some call it....
We use a antifungal like lotrimin cream for a couple days then just use a triple antibiotic ointment With the Antifungal Cream its usually gone in a few days.....

I had ear mites with one of mine and she was given a shot of ivomec, then it took about 7 days and it was gone.

sounds like fly bites. Not sure where you live but, if you have flies that could be it.

im from indiana so flies are out it sound like what tc said so ill try that and we did run them in a place that holds a lot of water but that was before it got real cold like a month ago so ill trythe antifungal cream and go from there. thanks for all the advice..kevin

I have the same exact thing going on with my one male. I was told by a friend of mine , that it is called HoofRot. It is the same thing horses get on the hoofs.
When its cold a dog will curl up to stay warm in his or her box. what happens is when the ears are wet they tuck there heads down and the warmth and wetness causes a bacteria.
It has taken mine a lot longer to clear up than expected cause i was putting to much anitfungal cream on. you want to put just enough on to dry it out. Right now my dog is start to look pretty good and clear back up.
It might help if you can shave around the ear area a little bit , so the hair doesnt hold onto the cream. you DO NOT want it to MOIST at all. That will just defet the purpose of using the anitfungal cream and amke it worse. I took mine to the vet after it didnt clear up, and that is exactly what she told me. She also put him on a antibacterial pill to prevent anything.

The first thing you want to do is give the dog a bath and scrape all the scabs off and the apply the cream. you would want to give the dog a bath cause it could hurt a little if you just scrap off scabs that are dry.
