Swolen Knee on my male dog

My male ( 19 month ) has a swolen knee that is about the size of a Golfball.

Anyone have a idea on what may have caused this and what to give him to bring it down....

If you have something to put around his neck to keep him from chewing it off, you could use vinegar and brown paper bag. Old time remedy for sprains that my grandmother used. Works pretty good. I have used it on myself when I sprained my ankle.

Tear the paper into strips and soak in the vinegar and wrap around the dog's knee. You can secure it with gauze(spl).

No stuff? Is that for real? What does the vinegar do, bring down the swelling?

Have you run him hard the last couple days or has he been in the kennel? He might have sprained it running or been in a fight in the kennel?

The vinegar and brown paper combination seems to pull the inflamation out. It wont work if you use anything other than brown paper.

I remember when I was a little kid, my uncle was trying to break a horse. He made the mistake of getting on while still in the barn. The horse bucked, reared and stumbled pinning my uncle's leg against the wall. It was a really bad sprain. Granny wraped hes ankle with the vinegar and brown paper. His ankle had swollen to twice the size of his thigh (he is a pretty good sized guy about 260). Hope this helps you visualize. The swelling was completely gone after 2 days. There was still some bruising and he couldn't bare his full weight on it. Instead of taking weeks to fully heal it only took 4-6 days. Good as new after that.

I think it is a mixture of the vinegar and the chemicals in the brown paper.
