ivomec Plus
1% ivermectin w/v and
10% w/v clorsulon in a sterile solution
Gave the wrong # when ordering. Anyone know about this stuff?

PS - I will not be using it for sure till I know different.

I have HEARD several times not to give the PLUS version to dogs. I never have used it so I have no first hand experience. I would hold off on giving it until someone can tell you for SURE!

Do not use the PLUS on dogs. It has an extra ingredient called clorsulon.

It has something in it for liver flukes in cattle. Its dangerous for dogs. Just return it and get the regular 1% for cattle.

Do you always have to inject Ivomec or can you give it orally ??

You can give ivomec orally. I give it once a month in the dogs food for heartworm prevention. I only use it injectable if we get mites or something crawly ;-) Also good for earmites. A couple of drops in the ear and they are GONE!

Thanks Leah, I hate needles so the thought of giving one, yuck. I'd have to get one of the guys to do it if need be.

This is a warning that I found on this product (What special precautions are there.This product is for subcutaneous use only. This product should not be used in animal species other than cattle, swine, reindeer and the American bison.)

I use a product called Revolution it cost a bit but at least it is made and teasted on dogs and cats.

I ordered a wormer from them over 10 days ago, seems like it takes along time to get it delivered. I just put my branko on the wormer the vet gave me and switched his food. Seemed to have bit of blood in his poop the last week or so. I find that happens when I use that o'roy food Dennis. So he's getting a worming and a meal change. If it's not that then it's bacterial, and he'll get antiboitics for that, if they ever come !
The other two hounds do fine on it, it just doesn't agree with him.
Anyone know how long it takes that pets mega store in the Aus. to deliver ??

I don't have a lot of time today but, this is copied and pasted from the Merck vet manual online.. Its a very safe drug except for some breeds (collies,shelties) have a adverse reaction to it. I've never heard of reaction in beagles or in most dogs for that matter. The ingredient in Revolution is Selamectin. I've used the cattle 1% with my dogs for over 15 years with no problems. Its a great product.

Dogs and Cats:
Ivermectin, selamectin, moxidectin, and milbemycin oxime may be used in dogs for the prevention of heartworm disease and control of GI roundworms. Many canine parasites are susceptible to ivermectin at the dosages used in other animals; however, because some dogs are adversely affected at these levels, ivermectin is used in dogs at only 6 µg/kg body wt, given at 1-mo intervals, to prevent development of Dirofilaria immitis , the cause of heartworm disease. At higher dosages (>100 µg/kg), some Collies are adversely affected by ivermectin. At a dosage of 0.5 mg/kg, PO, milbemycin oxime is used for prevention of heartworm infection and for treatment of hookworms, ascarids, and whipworms in dogs. Moxidectin is also effective for the prevention of heartworm infection at a dose rate of 3 mg/kg. The margin of safety of milbemycin and moxidectin in dogs, including those sensitive to ivermectin, appears to be similar to that of ivermectin.
Selamectin, an avermectin monosaccharide, is available in a topical formulation, thereby avoiding some of the problems associated with PO administration. Selamectin is also a true endectocide, as its activity encompasses most of the common intestinal parasites (eg, Toxocara , Toxascaris , Uncinaria , Ancylostoma ), heartworms, and external parasites (fleas). Selamectin may also be given to pregnant and lactating bitches for treatment and prevention of Toxocara canis infection .
