hi doc i accidentally hit one of my beagles with my truck took him to vet n she exrayed him n told me his pelvic was fractured into his hip joint how serious is this n will he recover
Coppernose2, I had a dog get hit by a car and fractured the pelvic bone along with other collateral damage. the vet said it would heal on it's own. he said i could resume running him in 3 wks. good luck
well my dog copper came home from the hosp tuesday and he is doing good not moving real fast got him in a small kennel giving him antibiotics twice a day he is eating good n seems like he is gonna be ok i hope so he is one fine rabbitt dog thanks Doggin for your help n encourgement jb
Joshua and Stephanie (on this board) went through the very same thing with a male of theirs. They crated him and followed vet's advice and the hound runs fine now. Don't know what other treatment was done, but he was out and about sooner than we all thought.
Pelvic fractures are something you either go 110% and have plated by a surgeon or you crate and see what happens. One thing I would add in here is that the pelvic fractures awhich are articular tend to develop arthritis down the road. Discuss chondroitin sulfate or glucosamine type supplements with your veterinarian.
