Harmful Shampoo?

Post by Charlotte H. »

I have a five year old beagle, and I was wondering if it would be okay to shampoo her with Johnson's Baby Shampoo instead of the puppy shampoo we normally use. I vaguely remember hearing someone warn that it might remove some healthy oils from her skin -- has anyone heard anything of this nature about human shampoos being harmful to beagles?

I don't think it's going to hurt her. They don't need to be shampooed that often - mostly when they're inside dogs and get out and roll in dukey.

On the flipside, Ralph has used flea and tick shampoo before when he comes in from the field and is loaded with bugs in his head, lol! Had nice shiny hair he did!

I thought it was pretty ingenious myself. Killed the ticks, lol!

Joy dishwashing liquid is a GREAT flea shampoo for occasional use - BE SURE TO RINSE WELL! I once got the bright idea that a less thorough rinse might give my cocker spaniel a little residual protection from fleas. It made him peel pretty badly - I felt really bad and stupid after the fact!
