If it is a hot spot, the best remedy to get rid of it is a product you can get for about $5-6 at any pet store called Sulfodene. Its a yellow liquid. To prevent them from coming back, add raw egg yolks, raw meat, and either cod liver or olive oil to the diet. That is one nasty looking sore. I have heard tell of ring worms in coonhounds ( I grew up around and coonhunting) and it looks similar or it could just be an ingrown hair. Had a pup once had a whisker or what ever you wish to call it ingrown and it just curled around inside. I lanced it and pulled the hair out and let the wound grow up around it. Good Luck with that.

Took mikey to the vet today. He said he thought it was a bad staph infection. Gave him shot of antibiotics and sent antibiotic pills home for him for 10 days. We'll see if that works. Thanks for input.

Mo I sure am glad to hear that for you... And I am glad you took him to the vet...

Those staph infections sure do do a number on the dogs don't they...
