I have a littler of pups that is 9 weeks old and a few of them have several Blad spots on their sides. Anyone have any Idea on what may be causing this and how to correct it.

Could be dermodetic mange. Have a vet test for mites. I had one that was treated with oral ivomec for 28 straight days, but he was alot older than 9 weeks. His looked like smooth skin, no sores. The hair grew back and he never lost any more. Two pups out of a litter of four had the same symptoms. A weak immune system is the problem. The dam was never bred again on the advice of the vet. I have since changed lines.

9 weeks is a little young to show signs of demodectic mange. It could be sarcoptic. These mites are very hard to find even on a skin scraping so, don't rule it out. Running a coarse of Ivermectin might help. 1/10th of a cc now then in 10 days. Are they scratching? What are they bedded in? Do you live in a cold or warm climate?

I have been giving 1 1/2 cc of Cephalexin for a 3 days so far.

They are scratching YES !

There is no scabs on the pups

I just changed their bedding to Cedar Chips they was on old blankets so we changed them out the 1st of the week...

We live in Kansas City MO the weather has been pretty mild here upper 20's to 50's so far this year.

I had the same problem with my last litter back in june. At 7 wks a couple of them started to lose hair on their head. Got pretty thin. Took them to a vet and she gave me some topical medication and a shampoo that I bought from them. I applied a strip along their back as close to their skin as possible. Let is soak in for a couple of days then used shampoo I bought from them. Shampooed them every other day. Let the shampoo soak in aswell for about 15 minutes before rinsing them off. It cleared up real soon. I still have one of the pups that I kept for myself and it is fine like nothing ever happened to it.

The vet did a skin scrape and found nothing. They also had bald spots on the side of there stomache.

cephalexin will only help with a bacterial infection. You need ivermectin. you can buy it at the feed store (cattle 1%) I would ask your vet for it first because you don't need a HUGE bottle of it unless you want to use it for Heartworm protection for all your dogs. They obviously have sort of bug that the vet didn't find. Do a google search on mites and you'll read that they are very hard to find even on repeated skin scrapings.

You can go the bathing/shampoo route but, its more work and this time of year I don't recommend it.

Use a sulfur shampoo... What are you feeding them? We'd use a little cod oil on the chow and once a week a dusting of sulfur on the pups.
Bedding can become pee soaked and burn puppy skin, we been using absorb-all oil dry in the boxes (most animals dust themselves and this stuff keeps skin dry).
This, along with the wormers should get about anything...

we are feeding Black bag ( BLACK GOLD ) and we have changed their bedding to Cedar this week thinking the same thing about pee soaked blankets. I started shampooing them every other day starting on this past Monday It looks like the hair is starting to come back a little....

It is just looking bad that is all I just want to make sure the pups are ok this is a cross I have been waiting on for awhile....

These pups look IDENTICAL to the pups I treated last year and they had Sarcoptic Mange Mites...Ivomec cleared them up and stopped the hair loss in about two weeks, took a little longer for the hair to grow back, but it will in no time....Windkist is correct....Tony

That may be right but i don't see the redness or inflamed from the mites...

The Vet didnt find any Mite on them when he did a scraping on Monday and there is no redness of scabs

Charles, I agree, and I questioned my vet last year on that as well...I was told you don't always see the redness if the infestation isn't that old or too intense...I could be wrong, I am no vet at all, just observing that they look exactly like the ones I treated and Ivomec did the trick
