Prolapse from stricture

I have a 12 week old pup that has had a prolapsed rectum. The vet said that they will try to stretch the alimentary canal a few times while the pup is sedated because his chute is too small. The pup seemed to be straining to poop frequently and could only pass small bits at a time. His appetite has been good and showed no other signs of being ill. He is digesting food and did not seem to be blocked by anthing foreign. Has any one else had any experience with this. The vet warned that this condition could come back in the near future and then a tough decision will have to be made. Is this something that has any chance getting better or is this just the pre cursor to future problems ?

This statement sounds strange. The Alimentary canal is basically the entire length of the GIT from the mouth to the anus. What is a Chute?
So the vet is going to "stretch the pups alimentary canal"?
I just don't get it.
Does the pup have tissue protruding from the rectum? It should look like an inside out tube sticking out. Rectal prolapse can be surgically removed or sometimes (depending on the type of prolapse and the length of time passed) can be returned to it's normal "position" manually. They can reoccur, but there are ways to lessen the chances of it happening again.

I can't see a need for euthanization for something like this, if that was the "difficult decision" you were referring to.

We had a couple pups have this when I was a boy at home. They got to eatting ground feed out of the feed bin and plugged up the works. Some I got going by mineral oil to both ends, two had to have a purse stitch sown around the rectum to keep it in till it healed.
Runny mush was all we fed to them for most of the month, as the threat of straining might tear it loose and turn it out again.
We got lucky and it never reoccurred...
Oh, and there was the time they ate abunch of wood chips...
You have to watch pup about chewing and eatting anything...

I do not think they will go in through his mouth. The difficult decision will be can I keep an athelete with a health problem ? Beagles make wonderful pets and some people would be glad to have one with a health problem,but I must have athletic healthy animals. If his narrowing is hereditary could I breed him ? Would I be responsible as a human being if I knew of a flaw and did nothing about it ?
Stricture is the narrowing of a passage or opening. A persons esophagus can be stretched if it narrows but usually narrows again.
Chute =a channel or passage that something can slide down.

I talked to the vet today and they want to keep him a while longer. The prolapse was not hanging out constantly. He would strain to poop and you could see the round red part coming out of his backside. He spent most of his time squatting to poop. When he was distracted by playing or interacting with me the round redness would retract.They have also given him a series of enemas and mineral treatments.
