heartworm treatment

Post by dexter »

Is there a treatment for heartworms using Ivomec? I have heard of this but don't know for sure if I am remembering it correctly! Any info would be appreciated. I just took a dog to the vet and the test seemed to be inconclusive so if I found out for sure, I need to know what to do about it! Thanks in advance, Dexter

Dexter, I use ivomec to prevent heartworms in my dogs. Once a dog has heartworms, you should let the Vet treat it to kill the worms. This is something a Vet should do as it is done with great care due to the danger to the dog during treatment.

BE CAREFUL!

I don't know about Imovec, but we recently went through the whole heart worm ordeal and I know that the "standard vet preventative medicines" can be fatal if the dog is heartworm positive. This is one reason why vet's test before prescribing the preventatives.

Good Luck!

Heart worm med

Post by samlyn0001 »

My vet told me today that my pup didnt need the preventative until Five months. Got three dogs to test this month. Took my lab today. 81.50 total for a 72 lb dog. Including the test 28.50, 38.00 For six month preventative shot, and 15.00 for the exam. :yuck: Have the other two beagles to do in two weeks. Will go with the shots for them too. Our pup will be on once a month pills which covers whip worm too. Gotta do what ya gotta do.
Take care
good luck
