My beagle came in from our suburban yard and has very red eyes. The pupil and iris seem to be focused in an unusual manner which could best be described as the opposite of "cross-eyed." It looks like an allergic reaction to me. I use no pesticides, but do have an extensive grape arbor which attracts bees, spiders, etc. Any ideas as to what this could be and how to treat it? I haven't seen anything in her fur to indicate a bite but perhaps it's too small. She is not lethargic, is moving about well, is eating, drinking, and evacuating well. Primary symptom is her eyes.

Sounds like an allergy to me as well - we have a Jack Russell that gets that way sometimes - we give her a benadryl for a couple of days until it clears up.

If she is eating, drinking, breathing, deficating, etc. normally, then I would venture to say that she has environmental allgergies. Again, you can treat with benadryl. If you are using the caplets (12.5mg) give one every 8 hours or you can give the liquid 1ml/cc per 10lbs every 6 - 8 hours. It's important to continue to give it until the symptoms cease. Just giving one dose a day is not really enough to relieve the itchiness and swollen red eyes.
