We have a young male that shakes his head alot. He is not in any pain. We havn't seen any kind of discharge to think he has a infection. Has anybody every seen this or had this problem. I think it effect he running sometimes. Any info please.

I wouldn't know for sure but I don't think they will always have discharge with an ear infection. That would be my guess.

You might want to check this dog for earmites head shaking is usually a for sure sign of ear mites, and it really does not affect his running but will affect the way the dog opens on track when they bark it actually hurts their ears somehow and makes them not want to they still might some but will not as much. If their ears are a bright red on inside sure sign they have them or if they scratch at their ears or shake their head alot.

My female is doin' the same thing.Don't know what it is either.We have a ''dog store'' here in town,it's where all the beaglers & coonhunters go to buy their feed,collars,dog boxes & sit around & shoot the bull.The owner has a dog vet book & it says if there is no discharge,no discoloration or anything noticable it is a fungus.It is caused by the dog getting water or moisture in it's ear or ears.The book says to fold the dogs ears back on it's head so the inside of the ear can air out.Hold the ears in place by taping or if the dog starts to dig at it completely wrap the dogs head,just under & behind the jaw & up & back behind the eyes,leaving the ear canal open.It says to leave like this for 1-2 weeks.I've got my gyp all wrapped up & she is a sight.

We had a dog that had the same symptoms you are describing and yes he did have an inner ear infection. There was no redness, no discharge or any other sign other then shaking his head. It was necessary to treat with antibiotics to get rid of the infection.

My guess would be an inner ear infection. Fungus usually shows up as black stuff in the ear hole (visible). It's main cause is grains (carbohydrates) in the diet, i.e., commercial dog food.

Barking will cause pain in the ear and make the dog shake his head. The problem is deeper than the outer ear problems of mites and fungus. May have to go to vet for antibiotic. You could try reading about apple cider vinegar and follow ear cleaning techniques from that first.

I have had NO ear problems since leaving kibble at the pet store.

Sounds like mites. But as with any problem I can't figure out, take the dog to the vet. If he isn't worth the cost of a vet visit the just shoot him.

I ASKED THIS SAME QUESTION OF DOC.S HE SAID JUST BECAUSE A DOG SHAKES IT'S HEAD DOESN'T MEAN IT HAS MITES. TAKE HIM TO A VET FOR A CORRECT CALL.

Sounds like earmites

mix you half white vinagar half rubbing alcholhol squirt in ears then rub the base of his ear good this will get rid of the mites,,,,,,,,,walnut hull juice will do the same thing i took a dog to the vet some 4 years ago charged me 75 dollars for visit and meds and it was hope less alcholhol/vinigar took it 4 days was cleared up,,,,,,,,but try this on your own im no vet i just know what worked on my hound,,,,,,,,
