after reading one of the above posts I'm now worried about my female
when she has her pups. Could some of you give me some ideas of what to look for if my dog is having complications in puppy birth? Thanks for any and all information.

Me too.....my female is only about two weeks away from having pups.
Her and my first time with this and I would also appreciate hearing from some knowledgeable breeders.

I highly recommend reading some good whelping books. One that I have is called "dog breeding for professionals" You might check Amazon.com for it. When you bitch is close to her due date I usually will take temps morning and night to get an idea of what her normals temps are. When a bitch is ready to whelp her temp. will drop to 98 or lower. 99.9 is not an indication..it must go below 98 (most of the time with a few exceptions) Normally my bitches are in active labor at 97.6 Next.. don't just leave her out in the box and not watch her. Once you know she is ready to whelp check her often and
make sure that you watch for contractions. If she is contracting for 1 hour or longer with No progress you need to have her seen by a vet. The bitch that had problems in the other thread obviously had an obstruction and was still having good hard contrations which would cause a uterus to rupture.

If you have specific Questions I'm happy to answer any and all. Also a excellent website for whelping info is located here

I just found a copy of dog breeding for professionals on ebay.. going for 1 penny! This is the older one like I have and the cover is graphic but, its full of good info.
