I usually start taking the temp about 4 days prior to estimated whelp date, every 12 hours to start with and then about every 6 hours 24 hours prior to EWD. Once the temp drops to or below 99 and doesn't go back up, whelping is within 24 - 36 hours.
You can use a regualar digital thermometer bought at any drug store or wally world, but the fast read (results in 60 seconds or less) ones are really alot better than the ordinary digitals. Just make sure you mark this one for "DOG USE ONLY", lol.

thanks for the info bunny runner. Iam new to beagling and have been
reading this forum for just a couple of weeks and you by far have a
knowledge of beagles and all that relate to them as far as health that amazes me. You must be either be a vet, vet tech or a book worm for
animal medical books. I look forward to learning more from you and the others that post here. Thanks again

Thanks Margaret. Actually, I am an animal science major in college (at 45, lol), but I also have been beagling for quite a few years, work at a grooming and boarding facility and do wildlife rehab. Geeze, when I type it all out, I wonder how I manage all this and still remain 1/2 sane! My concentration is animal health as related to nutrition, so I really try to study all I can, but dang, there is still so much to learn. I hope that I never learn everything and appreciate boards like this where I continue to learn day by day.
Actually, there are many others here that know FAR more than I do and it's good to know that if I have questions, I can just ask some of the good people here!

Thanks again and good luck with your pups! Keep us posted!

Renee',

Check out our website and see the puppy picture. She is growing so much. I guess with only one pup she hasn't had to fight for her food. Go to our females page and click on the link by Psalty and that will take you to the puppy's page. Thanks again for the info you gave me while I was waiting for this pup to be born.
