Sounds like a tape worm to me. Did it kinda look like a grain of rice?
If it is tape worm, you can use droncit, safeguard, D-worm, or canine all-wormer.
The only other worm you may see in the feces are round worms. You would normally NOT see Hooks or Whips!

What to do if the hound is about 2-3 weeks into her first pregnancy and has tapeworms?

I would probably wait until she delivers, but that's just me. Personally, I feel tape worm is one of the least serious internal parasites a dog can have. They are fairly easy to get rid of and don't really cause alot of problems (serious ones, that is).
If your talking whip, round, or hook then I would worm her. Whip worm is one of the worst, IMO, because they are so hard to get rid of and they can cause bleeding in the large intestine and colon. These worms can also be passed to the pups via the mothers milk, tape cannot.

Thanks BunnyRunner....

My vet said to wait until I was sure she is pregnant....then he will treat the tapeworms ( I assume). He indicated the wormers can have undesirable effects on the pups??

Some of the medications used in dewormers can have a negitive effects on the pups, especially in the earlier part of the pregnancy. Your vet has given you good advise, IMO.
