Hi everyone, I'm new to this board, but not new to dogs! We raise Cocker Spaniels and "Poos". We even have a sweet little 12 in. Beagle named Daisy who is a blast to be around. We went to the Grand American in Orangeburg, SC and I feel in love with all of the beautiful hounds! We respect all of the experiences and knowledge that hunters have and are thrilled to find a place where info is shared. All for the love of Dogs!

Got a question: We have fed for the last 3 years Diamond Dog Food. (Until the recall and we switched to The Pride) We used Premium Adult (green and yellow bag) on our adults. ( No pregnant or nursing moms tho) and Diamond Puppy ( purple bag) on our pregnant and nursing moms and thier babies.
We had moms that either had a drastically reduced number of pups than usual for them and some that should have been pregnant and no pups. A couple had the usual size litter but a few of the pups were weak and died within a day of being born. Has anyone else using Diamond Foods noticed a difference in thier litter sizes and pregnant moms?
We keep our pregnant and nursing moms in a building with separate indoor outdoor stalls that is climate controlled with heat and air, vinyl flooring indoors. Our moms deliver thier pups in our house right were we can keep an eye on them and help out if needed. Our dogs are kept on a rigid worming and vaccination schedule. We use the old standards Safeguard for the usual worms and Ivomec for heartworm prevention. We do not worm our pregnant moms until they deliver thier pups.
One of my fellow breeders (Yorkies) has been going thru the same thing with her pregnant moms and she used Diamond food too.
One last question: Is Black Gold a good food? So far my dogs love The Pride. Thanks for all your help guys!

Hi Carolyn,
Thanks for the reply. I have been reading down the line on all kinds of topics. I don't think it is a nutritional defect or effect since I had been using Diamond for 3 years. I do however think it is a result of the Aflotoxin that Diamond got contaminated with. Just was wondering if anyone else has noticed any problems since the recall. Thanks!
