My female freaks out when you touch her tail, trying to lift it up is out of the question. She keep the tail tuck between her legs and acts ok other than this.will hunt ok and eats well, but you toch her tail and she will try and bit me or will lay on her back.

Maybe it is sore or broken. Have you had the vet check it out for you.

Forget the vet, try a chiropractor. Does she hunt? One of my dogs dislocated her tail while hunting. Chiro fixed it in no time, skipped the vet though. Carolyn

I am about 90% sure that an xray will show nothing wrong and then the vet will want to do surgery. Go to a good animal chiropractor and save yourself a lot of money and your dog a lot of pain. The problem may be in the body of the dog or in its tail. A chiro should be able to tell and do the fine adjustment needed. Carolyn
