Has anyone experienced a dog with swollen tear ducts? Both at the same time. I was thinking allergic reaction to something? Maybe, maybe not. There's no discharge in the eye area. Tear ducts just really swollen.

I would guess allergic reaction. check your food and environment. having a vet do surgery on tear ducts is usually a waste of money. my beagle's eyes cleared up once she got on human food. try cold compresses. if enlarge too much might have infection needing antibiotics. carolyn

Thanks Carolyn,
I'm suspecting an allergic reaction. I went to several websites about canine eye problems. "Conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the membrane that covers both the inner lining of the eyelid and the white of the eye. It may be caused by infections, allergies, inadequate tear production or irritation."
The only thing that I can suspect is a reaction to eating pine cones. This dog eats anything. I just put pine needles in her house a week or so ago. Tonight she is in a different kennel and house with a different bedding. I also washed her eyes out and administered antibiotics. I'll see what she looks like in the a.m.

For conjunctivitis, use a saline wash 2/day and terramycin opthalmic ointment. Oral antibiotics don't work very well on cconjuctivitis. It's is also contagious, so make sure to wash YOUR hands very well after messing with her. It can take a while to clear up, so be diligent and don't give up.
