Watery eyes

I brought a female beagle who's eyes consistently water and are filled with infection. They were that way when I brought her. She was not run a lot. She was left in a pen for 7 months before I brought her. I have run her since. I feed her good food. I wondered if anyone knows how to cure this. I have used contact cleanser, which sometimes works if the dogs injured their eyes in the field. This hasn't made any difference. It's like her eyes are infected. Outside of me being dumb for buying her what should I do. Hopefully she won't transfer this to my other dogs.

Diet, diet, diet.... read Dogs in Canada Oct 2005 about commercial foods vs human grade, home prepared (raw or cooked). My experience with eyes running like that is diet related. If you remove grains, preservatives and the various other non essential ingredients in commercial food (leaving meat and vegetables) you will probably see a difference in her eyes. email me privately if you want more info. carolyn

It could be allergies to either food or enviromental, but if it's an infection of some sort (ie: conjunctivitis), you will need opthalmic antibiotic ointment (terramicin). You want to flush the eyes with opticlear or similar before using the terramicin. This should be done daily for 10 days and if not cleared by then, I would take her to the vet. It may be that she needs oral antibiotics. Some of the dogs I work with have chronic eye "goop". It's as if they have a predisposition to it.
Good luck and keep us posted!
