Possible cut

Post by Hunter »

My 2 yr. old female appears to have a cut running across the meat that connects her middle 2 toes on her left foot. I think it happened on ice possibly. First I soaked it in epsom salt and then put antibacterial ointment on it. Let her rest it a week just using it around the backyard. She seemed ok then I took her and ran her for a couple of hours and now she is limping again. suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Paul

Paul, cuts and tears on the pads are very difficult and time consuming to heal sometimes. Often several weeks of rest is required. If it's bad enough, I've heard where some vets will stitch the pad back together. Might want to let the vet have a look. Good luck!

You vet might just use a glue to help it heal faster as opposed to stitching it up based on where it's at and how much it's already sealed-up.

Also, if she stepped on a piece of glass or something as opposed to just cutting it on ice, there could be some solid pieces inside.

You may also want to rule-out any type of infection, but it could just be that it's still just too tender for heavy exercise.
